RESCUECOM Back-To-School Computer Reliability Report for 2015 Q2

Rankings Show Moderate Shifting in Back-To-School Computer Reliability Report

RESCUECOM Releases 2015 Q2 Computer Reliability Report

September 9, 2015

If you are looking for a computer or a tablet for school, you must know the reliability of the brands available. There is no better resource than the 2015 Q2 Computer Reliability Report from RESCUECOM, showing that the most reliable manufacturers continue improving while competition between less reliable brands shows little change of late.

Samsung and Apple top the list, as they have for some time. Dell has enjoyed an improvement from being one of the worst performers in prior years, while HP’s reliability score drops again. Amazon is missing due to a drop in popularity of its tablets, while Microsoft ranks in the median due to its production of the Surface tablet.

While IBM/Lenovo had gained ground on Apple and Samsung, its score did not increase as much as either, keeping it in third. The middle rankings belong to Microsoft and Asus, a familiar spot for Asus and Microsoft’s first inclusion in the report. Dell sits in the middle as well with the most significant improvement, its score rising a full letter grade.

Rounding out the bottom of the rankings are Toshiba, Acer, and HP. Toshiba’s score has dropped slightly, while Acer has seen the largest drop from the middle to being second to last. HP took last place most recently and, unfortunately, its grade continues to drop.

The largest shift in patterns from recent reports is that gaps between the top and bottom brands have widened. Reliable manufacturers continue to improve, the middle remains steady, and less reliable brands continue to falter. If trends do not change, Apple, Samsung, and IBM/Lenovo will continue holding the top rankings, while HP must initiate drastic improvement. In the constantly and quickly fluctuating tech industry, the right moves can lead to fast and drastic changes in increasing consumer confidence.

RESCUECOM calculates reliability scores by contrasting a manufacturer’s market share of tech devices to the number of tech support calls for those devices. The resulting list is an excellent resource for parents of children beginning a new school year when deciding what tablet or laptop to purchase for educational purposes.

The following are the 2015 Q2 Computer Reliability Report rankings:

Manufacturer Reliability Grade
Samsung A+
Apple A
IBM/LENOVO B+
MICROSOFT B
ASUS C+
Dell C
TOSHIBA C-
Acer D
HP F
