Users Still Having Trouble with Windows

Windows Still the Main Issue in RESCUECOM's First Biannual Computer Repair Report

By financialcontent.com on July 11, 2016 at 08:40 AM EDT

SYRACUSE, N.Y., July 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- RESCUECOM, the top computer repair company in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada, showcases a big change in the newest Computer Repair Report by compiling statistics biannually rather than quarterly and, in doing so, discovering that difficulty with Windows has not eased as much as expected, though it has slightly.

The Computer Repair Report is created by gathering information from every call received for computer repair at and constructing a ranked list of every technology issue that troubles consumers and businesses.

The following are the rankings for RESCUECOM’s first semi-annual report:

RankProblemPercentage%
1Windows App and Windows OS Problems57.0%
2Viruses / Spyware / Malware / Pop-Ups11.3%
3Printer Trouble7.5%
4Poor Computer Performance / Slow PC7.0%
5Internet / Network / Wi-Fi Connection4.7%
6Email Issues4.4%
7Failure to Boot / Blue or Blank Screen3.0%
8Hardware Issues / PC or tablet2.1%
9Data Recovery / Movement1.8%
10MAC App and OS Trouble0.7%
11User Error0.3%
12Phone Difficulty0.2%
13T.V. Problems0.1%

All problems with Windows, whether related to its apps or its OS, continue to make up the majority of computer repair calls and viruses, spyware, and malware. The foremost Internet security threats are always major concerns and rank second. Trouble with printers ranks third, while issues with sluggish or choppy computer performance rounds out the top four.

The best way to keep your computer and mobile devices safe from any potential danger is to keep your OS and apps updated at all times, take advantage of cloud storage, and install the best Internet security programs, such as the RESCUECOM Internet Security Suite. Be aware that free antivirus software only makes you feel safe while actually leaving you vulnerable; the quality of paid software is much higher and provides real safety from dangers lurking online.

Hardware problems with printers, computers, phones, or TVs, may not be easy for those who do not have professional training or experience to fix. User error is still an issue, albeit a small one, easily prevented by keeping devices away from liquids, avoiding dropping them, and having a means of preventing your password from being lost or getting into the wrong hands. When these problems do strike, you may require an expert such as a RESCUECOM Certified Level-3 technician to provide data recovery and system recovery solutions.

Even those who are most prepared cannot foresee every possible difficulty that may arise, but you do not need to be technologically proficient to prevent many difficulties that commonly affect users. Keeping all files and programs up to date, always having antivirus software not only available but running, avoiding simple mistakes that can lead to damaged tech devices, and securing passwords are all simple steps you can take to keep your technology in top shape.

...A hacker with the alias "DEATHRIDGE" entered a company Teams meeting via someone invited as a guest, and started taking control of my computer and my life. They sent emails pretending to be me that really looked like they were coming from me. They tried to take control of our corporate bank accounts, added themselves as a user to my Microsoft account, and locked me out of my computer as my passwords no longer worked. My ability to run a telecom company ground to a halt, and all my company and personal information was at their fingertips. I felt so helpless, and I needed folks smarter than the hacker(s) to do battle for me. Our typical computer pros couldn't handle it, and neither could other "experts" I called. Lucky for me I called RESCUECOM, and they immediately got to work. They didn't complain though I was asking for help in the middle of the night, but immediately got to work and worked non-stop to restore everything and protect me going forward. The team at RESCUECOM are my knights in shining armor, and they're the absolute best! less
