The results are in for RESCUECOM's 2010 first quarter Computer Reliability Report, IBM/Lenovo claims the top spot, Apple drops to third!

SYRACUSE, N.Y., June 1st /PRNewswire/ ― RESCUECOM's Computer Reliability Report starts out on a high note in 2010, with all five leading manufacturers putting up superior reliability scores to last year's averages. Apple, last year's overall leader, improved its reliability score, but that still wasn't good enough to maintain the top spot in the first quarter of 2010; instead Apple dropped to third place. IBM/Lenovo decidedly took first place improving their score over 200 points from their average last year. Not to be forgotten, Asus also posted significant gains and took second place. Rounding out the top five were Toshiba and HP/Compaq, respectively. As 2010 progresses it will be interesting to see which manufacturers can maintain their gains which ones may fall due to increased need for computer repair .

RESCUECOM believes computer reliability should be measured based on two fundamentals. The first being the quality of the components and software used in manufacturing the computer. And the second is the after sale support the manufacturer provides to its customers. How exactly does RESCUECOM measure these fundamentals to calculate an unbiased reliability score for each manufacturer? The calculation is quite simple: The number of computers an individual manufacturer ships is weighed against the number of computer repair calls RESCUECOM handles for that same manufacturer. These nationwide numbers are recalculated each quarter and the higher the score, the greater the reliability.

"In this economy, consumers and business owners want to know a computer is reliable before they invest hard-earned dollars," says David A. Milman, CEO of RESCUECOM. "Our reports are intended to empower consumers when they head out to make purchasing decisions. Since technology develops at a rapid pace, our quarterly analyses provide a timely resource."

Once again, the top five contenders and their computer reliability scores for the 2010 first quarter Computer Reliability Report are as follows:

1.IBM/Lenovo (521)
2.Asus (446)
3.Apple (382)
4.Toshiba (262)
5.HP/Compaq (217)

The following data was used to calculate reliability scores:

...A hacker with the alias "DEATHRIDGE" entered a company Teams meeting via someone invited as a guest, and started taking control of my computer and my life. They sent emails pretending to be me that really looked like they were coming from me. They tried to take control of our corporate bank accounts, added themselves as a user to my Microsoft account, and locked me out of my computer as my passwords no longer worked. My ability to run a telecom company ground to a halt, and all my company and personal information was at their fingertips. I felt so helpless, and I needed folks smarter than the hacker(s) to do battle for me. Our typical computer pros couldn't handle it, and neither could other "experts" I called. Lucky for me I called RESCUECOM, and they immediately got to work. They didn't complain though I was asking for help in the middle of the night, but immediately got to work and worked non-stop to restore everything and protect me going forward. The team at RESCUECOM are my knights in shining armor, and they're the absolute best! less
