How Apple Can Fix Its Image

In RESCUECOM’s Annual Computer Reliability Report, Apple ranked as the most reliable company in terms of computer repair and computer support.  In 2010’s first quarter report, Apple slipped to number three, but earned higher reliability scores.

Until the recent issues with the iPhone 4, Apple’s image has been one of reliability, high quality computer support, and quality computer repair.

Apple has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow to discuss the iPhone 4, giving itself a chance to restore that image.

This press conference is the culmination of a few bad months for Apple, which has faced serious criticism lately.

This week, the storm of negative press came to a head as Consumer Reports refused to recommend the iPhone 4 and Microsoft referred to it as “Apple’s Vista.”  The Internet is abuzz with negativity, calls for a recall, and demands for free iPhone cases for everyone.

Nevertheless, the iPhone 4 is a huge success.  Demand and sales numbers remain high, and despite the antenna problems there have been no reports of massive iPhone returns or cancellations.

However, Apple’s public image has taken a hit.  Apple’s computer repair and computer support records are top notch and no other technology company inspires as much public support and fervor as Apple.  But now that support seems to be wavering.

Recently, RESCUECOM wrote of the importance of computer support and computer repair records.  Those records have always served Apple well.  This is Apple’s chance to remind customers of that.  A mea culpa, a sense of humility, and a return to its basic formula – quality products and quality service – would do wonders for restoring the image of reliable Apple.

And restoring that image would do Apple far more good than any free iPhone case.
