Wi-Fi Washing and Digital Drying

Between work, school, afterschool activities, other responsibilities, and trying to have a social life, it can be easy to forget to do your laundry. Laundry tends to pile up and hardly ever get done, at least in most households, but what if there was an easy way to do your laundry while concentrating on other tasks?

The Samsung announced its new WF475 washer and dryer set at the Consumer Electronics Show this January, which feature integrated Wi-Fi. Along with the now-standard touch screen settings display, your washer and dryer will be able to connect to the Internet.

This built in Wi-Fi capability will allow users to activate the washer and dryer with a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. With this ability to remotely activate the system, if you forgot to turn on the washer before you left the house you can do so whenever you remember, wherever you are. You will be able to start and stop the cycles, change settings, and remotely monitor your laundry by using the SmartHome app.

Obviously, you cannot remotely switch the laundry from the washer to the dryer (that would be nice though, right?), but through the Wi-Fi connectivity and the app, you will receive notifications when the washer and dryer cycles are completed. That way, it will be much easier to keep on top of your laundry while also working on important other responsibilities. You will not forget to change over the laundry if your phone reminds you that a cycle has finished, even if you cannot hear the machines operating.

One major concern with a touch screen Wi-Fi washer and dryer is the possible need for computer support or repair when something breaks. It will be a new kind of computer support need to have an electronic specialist come fix your washer and dryer, but it should be less difficult than fixing a computer.

What if, one day, your washer got a virus? Is it even possible to perform a virus removal on an integrated 8-inch touch screen washer? Viruses and computer problems are possible for any electronic device with Internet connectivity, but it may take some time for computer support technicians to adjust to working on your dryer rather than your computer.

As an advance in technology, this washer and dryer set is very interesting and possibly useful. However, it may be a good idea to wait for experts and technicians to determine a means of fixing possible problems before you invest in this new washer and dryer set.
