Ranjana Clark Effectively Markets PayPal!

Online and mobile payments are a growing industry.  One of the most recognizable names in the virtual payment industry is PayPal.  PayPal rose to prominence as a spin-off of eBay and as eBay grew, PayPal synergized with it in such a way that it rapidly gained the dominant market share for online payments.  However, with the rise of the smartphone, new mobile services like Dwolla, are steadily eating into that market share.  While the Technical Officers at PayPal work to increase PayPal’s mobile influence, it is Ranjana Clark who is retaining and winning over new customers for the company.

 

Ranjana Clark is the Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer, and Chief Marketing Officer.  In her role as Chief Customer Officer, she often learns new ways to better bring the PayPal experience to different demographics.  Clark uses that knowledge to then market toward new target demographics and in her brief tenure with the company, it has become clear she knows exactly what she is doing.  Ranjana Clark joined PayPal in 2011 and with her knowledge of international finance, the tech sector and strategy, she is well-placed to make a difference at PayPal.

 

In 1977, Ranjana Clark was living in Delhi where she attended Lady Shri Ram College.  Clark always had a head for numbers and organization, so when she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, it was unsurprising that she would continue her education.  Ranjana Clark went to the Indian Institute Of Management in Ahmedabad where she graduated in 1982.  Clark’s first Master’s Degree was in Marketing and that set her up for a position at Deutsche Bank in Mumbai.

 

Ranjana Clark’s thirst for knowledge, and advancement in the business world, led her to pursue a second Master’s Degree.  After five years with Deutsche Bank, Clark made the journey to the United States to study at the prestigious Duke University.  In 1989, she graduated with her Master’s in Finance and joined Wachovia.  For the next twenty-one years, Ranjana Clark played an integral role in managing Wachovia as the company’s CMO, Head of Treasury Services, and Head of Strategic Planning of the Capital Markets Division.  She completed her tenure at Wachovia as the company’s Chief Marketing Officer.

 

With the rise of virtual payment companies, Ranjana Clark’s expertise and imagination became even more important to traditional financing companies.  In March of 2009, Western Union effectively wooed Ranjana Clark from Wachovia by making her the President of Global Business Payments and the Executive Vice President and Head of Global Strategy.  It was a big coup for PayPal to hire Clark as their Chief Customer and Marketing Officer in 2011.

 

With so much experience in the financial sector, Ranjana Clark’s expertise is highly in demand by both financing and technology companies alike; it’s too bad there is only one Ranjana Clark!
