However, environmental laws and other regulations have slowed the search for viable new energy sources or methods of refining or utilizing currently available energy sources. Teresa Irvin Copenhaver is a Senior Associate at Triad Strategies, a public affairs firm in Pennsylvania that lobbies extensively in both Harrisburg and Washington, D.C. Copenhaver represents the energy interests at Triad Strategies and she has had a remarkable record of success in the past six years for them. In her role as Energy Specialist Senior Associate, Teresa Irvin Copenhaver utilizes all of the training of a lawyer with the tenacity of a lobbyist to see that alternative energy exploration progresses with as few impediments as possible.
Even though she was active in extracurricular activities like the student government and the college newspaper at Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, Teresa Irvin Copenhaver worked hard to appear on the Dean’s List. Copenhaver graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science before moving on to the Widener University School of Law. Through participation in the Women’s Law Caucus Internship program, many opportunities opened up to Teresa Irvin Copenhaver. Never one to miss a chance to work on the issues she was interested in, Copenhaver ended her Master’s studies of law before earning her JD.
Joining Smigel, Anderson & Sacks as a Legal Assistant and Legal Secretary, Teresa Irvin Copenhaver gained a great deal of experience in corporate law and litigation. After two years in that firm, Copenhaver got her first real taste of lobbying practices when she went to work for StateNet. In organizing documents to make them easier to search, Copenhaver learned a great deal about the legislative process and lobbying. In 2003, she joined Pennsylvania Legislative Services as a Senior Vice President. Tasked with building a network between legislators, lobbyists and disparate government agencies, Teresa Irvin Copenhaver used her extensive legal knowledge to help clients propose and pass bills in the Pennsylvania legislature.
With Triad Strategies, Teresa Irvin Copenhaver has moved onto a larger political canvass. While she continues to work with energy industry clients in Pennsylvania, most notably as a consultant for Hydro Recovery LP, Copenhaver’s intimate knowledge of the alternative energy industry and laws governing it have drawn the attention of individuals and companies from all around the United States. As alternative energy research and development continues to grow as an industry, one of the key players in shaping legislation for the industry will undoubtedly be Teresa Irvin Copenhaver!
