A Cash Infusion For DITTO May Help Raise The Company’s Visibility!

With so many great ideas in the tech sector, wooing venture capitalists for your start-up can be a full-time job.  Every idea that is pitched to a venture capitalist is competing for the resources and attention of investors; it can be hard to set your website, app, or web-based service apart in order to get funded.  Funding means the difference between having an idea and having a business.  So, when the venture capital specialists at August Capital put money into a company, it is an endorsement of the quality of the idea being presented.  With August Capital leading the three million dollar investment in DITTO, DITTO must be doing something right!

DITTO is an e-commerce site focused on eyewear that is working to make 3-D technology more accessible to consumers.  Currently, the DITTO site allows users to upload pictures in order to create a three-dimensional model of one’s head.  You may then select from eyewear that is associated with the site in order to see, in advance of a purchase, exactly how the eyewear will look on your face.  The site also has an interface where you may easily use the photos you create on DITTO to make Facebook polls to get feedback from friends and family on your new potential look.

Before the cash infusion, DITTO was limited to a very specific niche market.  While there certainly is a population of eyewear enthusiasts who want designer glasses delivered to them without ever having to leave their computer, that demographic is comparatively small.  August Capital and DITTO’s other investors seem to realize that and the cash infusion represents several exciting opportunities on the horizon for DITTO users.

The investment in DITTO will allow the company to provide even more designer frames and lens options.  Because the site has to be able to provide the frames people virtually try on, this represents a pretty significant expense, especially when one considers that some of the designer lenses retail at $1800!  The cash infusion creates a real inventory for the entire virtual product list, which makes DITTO far more useful to consumers.

The funding infusion is also being used to improve the 3-D technology to more realistically render both the virtual head model and the eyewear you place on it.  August Capital’s general partner, Howard Hartenbaum, will also be joining the Board of Directors at DITTO as one of the terms for the investment.  With the latest round of venture capital, DITTO is being given an opportunity for real expansion; it should not take long to see if the investment pays off.
