John Bartlett Has Been Bringing Cool Software To The Market For Years!

The software field has become an important marketing tool for other, seemingly unrelated, fields and businesses.  As a company finds profitability in one venue or medium, they often look to expand and, when it comes to software, that usually means synergizing a brand name with a new-to-market piece of software.  So, while there are many different software programs that allow you to play with home design, only HGTV Ultimate Home Design has the endorsement of a major cable network that specializes in such things as home repair and interior design.  The “HGTV” moniker adds a level of celebrity and consumer enthusiasm to the software and to get the name attached to the program, the software company Nova Design had to make a business arrangement (license)  with the company that owns HGTV.  Such licensing agreements are becoming increasingly important in the software market and that makes people like John Bartlett more important than ever!

John Bartlett is an expert in licensing and strategic alliances, most recently working for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing’s Consumer Division as the Head of Partnerships.  In that role, and many that he has had throughout his long career, Bartlett works to promote growth for established businesses by associating significant, established, products with new-to-market products.  He also has worked to open companies that have dominated one medium – like the printed publishing medium – up to other mediums, like digital presentations, in order to enhance the revenue stream of those companies.

After studying at Stonehill College, John Bartlett earned his Master’s Degree from Northwestern University’s prestigious Graduate School of Business Administration.  He immediately applied his talents to the tech sector, joining Digital Equipment Corporation as a Senior Internal Auditor in 1984.  After seven years of checking the books at DEC, John Bartlett went to work for Motorola as an Accounts Manager.  Yearning for greater challenges than the basic accounting work he was doing, Bartlett left Motorola in 1993.

It was then that John Bartlett found his real calling.  Bartlett joined Broderbund Software/Riverdeep in the Licensing and Strategic Sales department.  Concurrent to working at Broderbund, Bartlett took a National OEM Account Manager position at Spinnaker.  While he stayed with Spinnaker for three years, he became increasingly interested in the world of licensing and he continued with Broderbund Software until 2006.  Bartlett’s 13 year relationship with Broderbund helped build the company into one that was an attractive acquisition for Encore Software, before that company was bought out by the Navarre Corporation.  Having found his niche, John Bartlett also took up the mantle of Director of Licensing for The Learning Company/Cyber Patrol from 1996 through 2000.

Since leaving Broderbund Software, John Bartlett has served as a consultant for The History Channel and Boston Brace.  He has also taken executive positions, like becoming the Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Business Development for Knowledge Adventure, as well as his position at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.  With his keen ability to pair companies and brands, it is no surprise that the talented John Bartlett remains in demand!
