Navdy Gives Your Car a Heads-up Display

When people are constantly looking down at their smartphones as they text, talk, check their social media, or use any number of different apps, it can be easy to forget to keep an eye on what is in front of them. While in many situations this tendency is mostly harmless, it can be extremely dangerous while driving down a busy road. Several different organizations have taken great strides to reduce phone usage while behind the wheel and increase drivers’ awareness. That is where Navdy comes into play.

Navdy brings a tech support approach to solving the issue of distracted driving by providing a heads-up display, commonly known as a HUD, to a car. The device will work in any car by sitting behind the steering wheel and projecting a transparent display onto the windshield. Thanks to its advanced display technology, Navdy projects information such as incoming calls or GPS that looks like it is floating six feet in front of you.

Navdy features smartphone tech support to work with either an iPhone or Android, and works with many of the phone’s apps. Rather than losing focus on the road by checking your phone, Navdy lets you see the notifications from apps you choose directly in front of you, without obstructing your view. The device also has an attached camera and microphone to allow for hands-free control. You can do things like answering or dismissing a call by swiping left or right, or using voice commands to make calls and respond to messages. You can also use apps to let you listen to the music that you want without having to fiddle with radio controls while you drive. Navdy even connects to your car’s computer to show you important information about the vehicle. You can view things like your tire pressure, fuel economy, or any number of other vital performance statistics for your car. You can do all of these things without taking your eyes off the road for a second.

Navdy seeks to reduce the distractions caused by multitasking while driving and provide a safe alternative to staring at your phone when you are behind the wheel. The Navdy team is even looking into making their device the center of everything you do in the car, based on the feedback they have already received. While any activity done while driving is going to provide some level of distraction, Navdy keeps drivers as focused as possible and can make the road a much safer place.
