iOnRoad Uses Augmented Reality to Go Beyond Simple Navigation

There is a plethora of options for mobile users who want to use their smartphone as a GPS navigation system.  However, most of these navigation apps are essentially the same.  The only differences you are likely to find are in their user interfaces and perhaps the accuracy of their specific mapping systems.  iOnRoad is a cool product that breaks this trend of homogeneity.  Instead of merely relying on the old conventions of GPS navigation and mapping software, iOnRoad uses your smartphone’s camera to create an experience based on augmented reality instead.  Users mount iOnRoad so it can take video through their cars’ windshields.  The app then overlays its interface on top of the video while it navigates drivers to their destinations.

However, this augmented reality approach isn’t just a superficial visual experience.  iOnRoad uses your smartphone’s camera for several practical means as well.  iOnRoad uses your phone’s camera to detect your position on the road as well as how close you get to other cars.  If you trail too closely behind a car or are speeding too fast towards one, the app has a collision alert system that will warn you and tell you to slow down or back off.  The app can also detect if your car is nearing too close to the edge of your lane and will notify you with an off-road warning if you get too close.  This cool product even has car locator feature, which uses the GPS system on your phone to store the exact location of where you parked your car.  The app can then navigate you back to your car on foot if you’ve forgotten exactly where you left your vehicle.  All of these features are adjustable through the app’s extensive setting menu.  If you have issues adjusting the settings on your app, you should call mobile tech support and get help right away.

iOnRoad is currently available for both iPhone and Android users.  However, the app interface is different for either operating system.  Therefore, users who switch from Android to iPhone or vice versa may have trouble using the app in their transition.  Contact smartphone PC support if you find yourself in this situation.
