The Latest Executive To Join Google’s Board Of Directors, Diane B. Greene Is Proving Her Worth!

Early each year, the tech world gets turned upside down by corporate shake-ups.  It seems that most businesses in the tech sector wait for the early statistics to come in about the fourth quarter before they change their corporate leaders.  One of the signs of a strong, stable business is that the business will not change many (or any) of its executives.  In 2012, Google made only one addition to its Board of Directors and it was Diane B. Greene who joined the Board!

Diane B. Greene may have only recently joined Google’s Board of Directors, but she is no stranger to the boardroom.  Since 2006, Greene has served on the Board of Directors at Intuit and she is a member of the MIT Corporation, the body that governs the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  As a successful entrepreneur in the tech sector, Diane B. Greene is fearless in her management style and she has illustrated an expertise in taking calculated risks that pay off.

“Fearless” is an excellent word to describe Diane B. Greene.  Long before she became an esteemed executive, Diane B. Greene was known as something of a thrill seeker and a sportswoman.  In 1976, Greene won the National Double handed Dinghy Championship (women’s division).  She is also an expert windsurfer, a fact made undeniable by her three victories at the San Francisco Classic!  That sense of adventure would carry into Greene’s adult life, when she would strike out on her own to start her own technology companies.

After earning her Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University Of Vermont, Diane B. Greene remained focused on the study of technology and computers.  Not one to take an easy path, she earned two Master’s degrees!  Armed with a Master’s of Science in Naval Architecture from MIT and another Master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, Diane B. Greene was highly sought-after when she entered the job market.

It did not take long for Diane B. Greene to realize that she wanted to lead the tech sector, instead of following where others had tread already.  In 1998, Greene co-founded VMware, Inc., one of the earliest companies to use a Cloud-based model!  In 2007, she took VMware public, having run it for almost a decade as the CEO and President.  While establishing VMware’s presence in the marketplace, executives at Intuit were so impressed by her managerial skills that they wooed her to serve on the Board of Directors of Intuit!

Diane B. Greene joined Google at an important time, as Google works to make Google+ a viable social network and the company launches its Cloud-based services.  With her pluck, determination and experience, Diane B. Greene may be one of the best investments Google makes this year.
