Cadence Design Systems Trumps Cisco Systems For Susan L. Bostrom!

There are some work environments with which employees truly fall in love.  Those places where you might work where you find a sense of fulfillment and potential for advancement may be the best workplace of your life.  Sometimes, though, they might not be absolutely right for all you need at a certain point in your life.  When that happens, you may well move on.  The best workplaces, however, are the ones that will have you back when your circumstances, or those of the company you love, change once again.  Cadence Design Systems was an environment Susan L. Bostrom loved and one that eagerly took her back in 2011!

Susan L. Bostrom is an Independent Director on the Board of Directors for Cadence Design Systems.  Bostrom returned to Cadence Design Systems after a six year absence from the company.  Susan Bostrom served on the Board of Directors for four years in the early 2000s before she left to pursue other opportunities.  Ironically, the position she left Cadence for made her more enticing to the company and they worked hard to woo her back.

In many ways, it seems like Susan L. Bostrom was born and trained entirely for Board service.  Susan L. Bostrom studied extensively at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus where she earned two Bachelor’s degrees!  Bostrom earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Marketing and another in Business Administration in 1982.  From there, she went to the prestigious Stanford Graduate School of Business for her MBA.  Almost immediately after earning her Master’s, Susan L. Bostrom went to work for McKinsey and Company.

Susan L. Bostrom ascended the corporate ladder at various technology companies until she was hired at Cisco Systems and then Cadence Design Systems.  One of her earliest management positions was at AT&T.  She also applied her management training at Digital Equipment Corporation before the National Semiconductor Corporation hired her as their Director of Strategic Marketing.  She served there for three years before taking a similar position with FTP Software, Inc.  With her move to Cisco Systems’ Internet Business Solutions Group, Bostrom was promoted to Vice President.

While Cisco offered Susan L. Bostrom many opportunities, she found serving on the Board of Directors for Cadence Design Systems very satisfying.  In fact, shortly before her first term with Cadence ended, she joined the Board of Directors for Varian Medical Systems.  In 2011, Cadence Design Systems elected her back to the Board, which Bostrom leapt at, ending her long tenure at Cisco Systems.  In addition to serving Varian and Cadence, Susan L. Bostrom is an eager administrator on the Board of Directors for Sanford Hospitals and Clinics and Georgetown University!

The tech sector jobs like the many managing positions that Cisco Systems offered her may have given Susan L. Bostrom the experience she needed to succeed, but the Boardroom of Cadence Design Systems is the right fit for her!
