The Outlook Foundation Recycles Old Technology to Help Those in Need

It’s easy to forget about what happens to old and unused computers.  Technology updates so quickly that people often don’t have time to figure out what to do with their old machines and will leave them in storage, collecting dust for years.  Needless to say, this is not the best use for older technology that often works perfectly fine or could work fine with just a little computer repair.  The Outlook Foundation is a nonprofit that wants to take those old computers and technology and use them for a better purpose.  The charity takes older technology and repurposes it in order to donate it to children in need who can benefit from having access to a computer and the Internet.  The foundation also aids veterans who return from overseas without a job by giving them computers that can help them find a place in civilian life once again.  By giving technology who those who can benefit the most from it, the Outlook Foundation has found a much more effective and altruistic use for the computers that people have replaced with newer tech.

Not having a computer, even at a young age, can be an incredible handicap when trying to operate in current society.  A child who does not have regular access to a computer or the Internet will often struggle with schoolwork due to their lack of access to information and resources that others have at the same age.  The Outlook Foundation gives these young students a better chance to succeed with their donations.  Even the resources from an older computer will better position children to develop more quickly and find their best chances for success in life, whether that means becoming a teacher, writer, doctor or even an IT support technician someday.

As for returning veterans, the benefit any computer can give them is immense.  Finding a job where they can use the skills military service gave them effectively is nearly impossible without a way to create a resume and access opportunities via the Internet.  By giving returning veterans the chance to find work more easily, the Outlook Foundation is also helping society as a whole by inserting skilled people in the job market who would otherwise be struggling.
