Internet Devices Now Exceed Living Beings

The world has come to a startling realization.  A Cisco employee blogged that there are now more devices connected to the Internet than people on the planet to use them.  Technology’s role in our lives continues to grow, necessitating knowledge on topics from computer support to Internet security.  Humanity reached a strange milestone as our devices exceeded our population for the first time.  Internet security and computer support are larger issues than ever in our machine driven world.

An idea that was once science fiction seems more like common sense in 2011.  In 2010 there were 12.5 billion devices connected to the Internet versus a global population approaching a mere seven billion.  Items attached to the web range from the obvious smartphones, and laptops, to the interesting, such as a Dutch company implanting wireless sensors in cows that tell farmers when that cow is sick or pregnant.  Internet security becomes more important as more data flows across the planet.  Families and businesses will require greater computer support as their network of devices grows.

According to Cisco the number of web-connected devices first exceeded population in 2008.  Since then the gap has only widened as automation continues.  Systems in your home, such as heating and security, can now link to your mobile device, highlighting the need for Internet security across platforms.  Settings can be changed and computer support can be reached to fix many of these new systems should problems arise.  The speed of communication increases, allowing multinational corporations to spread across the planet.  Web-based devices, utilized by business to share data remotely and make decisions, make Internet security vital.

The importance of computer support and Internet security only continues to grow.  Devices are beginning to talk to each other, cooperating to complete tasks and solve problems.  In the not too distant future all the devices in your house may be linked, allowing communication between them.  Your car and alarm clock may talk to each other, checking traffic conditions and weather advisories before changing the time your alarm goes off so you are not late for work.  The need for good Internet security will be greater than ever as human lives become interwoven with technology.   Computer support will be critical in maintaining the functions on which people have come to depend.

The possibilities are endless, along with the potential dangers weak Internet security could invite.  A computerized world where machines talk, allowing society to improve and function more efficiently, may be just around the corner.  Internet security will be paramount in protecting against attacks that could cripple these systems.  Computer support will be needed to keep everything running smoothly and may even come from a computer supporting your devices.  Only time can show us what the future will bring, but certainly the shift in how people live their lives continues to accelerate.
