Darius Fong Founded WeeSpin for People to Express Themselves through Playlists

People have been creating personalized playlists since before music was digital.  Thousands of people still remember recording personal “mix tapes” on cassettes and sharing them with their friends or giving them as gifts to loved ones.  Digital playlists are, in many ways, the modern version of these personalized mix tapes and just like the mix tapes of old, people have a desire to share the playlists they create today.  Enter cool person in technology Darius Fong who has created a new service designed around the idea of everyday users crafting personalized playlists and sharing them with the world.  Fong’s product goes by the name of weeSPIN, emphasizing the social aspect of the service by using a play on the plural pronoun “we”.

With weeSPIN, users create personal profiles just as they would on other social networks such as Facebook.  However, rather than using text posts, photos and links to express themselves, users instead formulate special playlists to share with their friends.  Each playlist on Fong’s website is more than just a static list of songs.  Users can add custom titles, captions and even digital album art to each playlist they create and publish on weeSPIN.  Obviously, users can click on and play back any public playlists posted to Fong’s site.  People populate their playlists with songs from cloud and streaming music services SoundCloud and Spotify.  Users who have issues when connecting their SoundCloud and Spotify accounts to Fong’s service should seek a cloud tech support specialist for assistance.  Users can also continually build and edit playlists so they become dynamic and change over time.

Fong’s service will primarily focus on its iPhone app, meaning that users will need to seek Apple support if they need help with the product.

Before becoming a tech entrepreneur, Fong was a music producer in Los Angeles.  This cool person worked as engineer in recording studios for many years as well as a freelance and independent music producer in his own right.  Fong also has startup experience from working as VP of product development for another music-related tech company called WEarePanel, which was a music discovery platform fueled by human recommendations.  Now, as an entrepreneur in his own right, Fong is doing everything he can to make weeSPIN a product where people can express themselves socially through their musical taste.
