Cirqle Lets You Share Photos Offline

The world seems to get smaller and smaller as more technology lets us stay in touch with everyone over the Internet. We can use our phones to instantly share pictures and videos of where we are and what we are doing to friends who are miles away, and keep up with major life events without ever needing to actually remember so much as a birthday thanks to social media. However, despite this constantly connected lifestyle, sometimes you are in a situation where you just can’t be online all the time. Your options tend to be limited when you want to share your experiences right away but have no Internet connection to do so. Luckily, an app called Cirqle now lets you share pictures even when you are offline.

Cirqle officially launched in 2013 as a platform for users to upload picture and video collections. The app allows multiple users to add to a collection within, as the name would imply, specific circles of people. These groups can be set to either public or private, letting you keep personal pictures between friends or allowing you to share an experience with the world as desired. While this app originally required an Internet connection to work, it now features an offline mode.

The offline mode works using a Bluetooth connection to get data about a picture or video recently posted, then shares that media file with devices on the same network. This works well with a home network service, and in areas where normal internet connectivity is either blocked or unavailable due to temporary high usage.

Cirqle is one among a number of apps beginning to offer offline capabilities. Offline communication apps have been gaining popularity, and Cirqle hopes to use that popularity to become more appealing to a wide range of users. Cirqle also features desktop tech support, allowing users to share their pictures and videos over the app’s desktop web site. Currently the app is available for free, but plans to use a subscription business model in the future. The company behind Cirqle believes that the new version of the app has a wide following with an international audience.

While the trend is currently for everything to become more and more integrated with the Internet and force consumers to be online constantly, it can be refreshing for some people to see apps putting a renewed focus on expanding the offline capabilities of a phone.
