Aortix Revolutionizes Heart Care

photo aortix-revolutionizes-heart-care.jpgThere are more people in the world suffering from heart problems than ever before, and experts predict that one out of every five people over forty years old will develop heart failure. Unfortunately, there is also a large gap between the number of safe and effective treatments between patients with lower and greater severity of heart failure according to the New York Heart Association. At class 3, according to the NYHA’s classifications, there is very little that works, and even less hope beyond that. Fortunately, a company called Procyrion consisting of Life Science entrepreneurs, cardiologists, and circulatory support experts has created a device called Aortix to help with this problem. It is a custom-designed heart pump built around a powerful tiny motor mounted on a set of expandable struts. Its designers created it to help rest and heal the heart by doing two things. Firstly, it works by reducing afterload, the pressure built up in the heart after it contracts to eject blood while pumping. Secondly, it improves blood flow to vital organs. Unlike other devices that work to achieve a similar effect but involve invasive, high-risk procedures, Aortix is small enough for use without surgery and with much less risk.

While Aortix is a revolutionary device on the cutting edge of technology, and computer equipment is necessary for an operating doctor during a procedure, the device itself is free of any tech support issues and concerns. It is a mere 6 mm in size, roughly one third the length of a standard pencil, with a wire thin enough to fit inside blood vessels. Deployment is by catheter, and it remains embedded in a blood vessel as a long-term treatment in order to reduce the amount of work the heart of performing and allow it to rest.

Amazingly, a doctor can employ Aortix through a catheter simply and without surgery in a surprisingly brief ten-minute procedure. Because a hospital monitors and analyzes medical procedures with extremely advanced equipment, reliable computer support should always be a priority, and this is of course true of the equipment used while utilizing Aortix as well. It is a device that reduces the three main risks of heart failure. It reduces procedural risk by eliminating invasive surgery and its associated dangers and allowing patients to forego a hospital stay, the average of which is forty days. It reduces thrombosis risk, a stroke that occurs in 40% of patients using other devices. It also reduces risk from device failure. Traditional support devices replace the function of the heart rather than supporting it, and a pump failure is almost always fatal. Should there be a problem with Aortix, it does not obstruct native blood flow and therefore will not result in a life-threatening event. In any case, it is clear to see how this amazing device can revolutionize care for the many patients with heart problems.
