Finding a place to rent is rarely fun, but it is worse to find out that you hate the place you rented after moving into it. With a fragmented market and hundreds of rental sites to view, finding the right rental property is a challenge, even with all of the hours spent researching. The problem is not an inability to find a place to rent, and there is a massive amount of data to sift through and plenty of places available. The dilemma is in what happens after a move, since one can very rarely view the property, instead relying on photos and video of the location made to show it in the best light possible. RentMatch looks to fix this dilemma. Looking at basic sites, one cannot find information such as how hot or cold a house is, much less whether neighbors are loud or there is constant construction nearby. RentMatch offers a community marketplace for people to review, search and list rental properties working in dozens of cities across the U.S. It provides an apartment ratings and review service to help renters avoid remorse and choose the best place to rent with more thorough information from those who have lived there. When making a rental of any kind, it is wise to get local rent rates from multiple nearby vendors. Calling or visiting each one can take up a lot of time and effort, even with the myriad of online rental websites. Another problem with searching online is that individual websites tend to focus on a specific range of goods, items, or services, making it impossible to find a variety of different things in one place. This is where Rentabilities comes in. Rentabilities is a free website that helps you lets you find and rent nearly anything from nearby vendors. Some have said it works as “eBay for rental equipment and items,” and its range of goods certainly sets it apart. Its creators claim that it offers nearly 200,000 items from thousands of local merchants. It is beneficial to the consumer, who can get fast quotes for any item and get very different things for a single event without needing to shop in different places or view different websites. It is also beneficial to rental businesses, putting smaller ones on par with larger competitors so users can choose based on price and availability. Read more »

Apartment hunters have always had to be wary about the properties they visit when looking for a place to rent. While somewhere may seem perfect on the surface, there are numerous cases of bad landlords and neighbors making life difficult for renters. While once can evaluate the quality of a living space without much trouble, it’s not possible to judge a landlord or property management company after one or two meetings with them. It’s also impossible to know if they people you live next to will respect your needs and preferences as a neighbor. Cool person in technology Eric Wolfe is helping people avoid these problems with his company Swapt. Swapt is a website where renters can review places to live in cities from across the United States. In many ways, Wolfe’s service is essentially a Yelp!-style site for apartment buildings and rental properties. Users can leave detailed reviews and rate the places that they have lived in order to help others make informed decisions about where they want to rent. Anyone who experiences technical problems while going on this cool person’s site and trying to leave a review may require home tech support services. Read more »

While resorts and luxury hotels are common destinations for people to spend their vacations, many families prefer to rent a residential home for the duration of their stay. Renting a room or an apartment, especially for short-term period, can lead to seriously stressful and uncomfortable situations for someone if there is an issue with the landlord. Many renters feel more comfortable when staying in an apartment lent by their friend, or at least a friend of a friend. Trusting a landlord before moving in can take a load off people’s minds. Cool person in technology Nitzan Yudan wants to use his website FlatClub to help create more living situations where this trust between landlord and tenant exists. FlatClub is part renter’s marketplace and part social networking site. Yudan operates the site under the premise that people would be more willing to rent rooms to others if they knew that person on some level first. To make this easier to achieve, FlatClub hosts several different “clubs” on its website. Each club centers itself around an established community, such as a university or a place of work. For example, there are clubs for London Business School students and alumni, Apple employees, and American Express employees. FlatClub partners with a number of these companies to establish these online clubs. When a club verifies someone as a member, they can see flats posted within that club and can message landlords from the club who have posted a room on Yudan’s site. Anyone who has trouble with club verification should call a tech support company to see what might be the problem. Read more »
