Skillshare CEO Michael Karnjanaprakorn Helps Professionals Teach Their Skills

Many professionals have useful skills that they could pass on to others, but they don’t have the time or credentials for an official teaching position.  Cool person in technology Michael Karanjanaprakorn wants these skilled professionals to have an outlet where they can spread their knowledge.  That’s why he founded Skillshare, an online platform where professionals can apply to teach short video classes in subjects ranging anywhere from archery to sound mixing.  Karanjanaprakorn’s site doesn’t cater to one particular niche or industry, but to a wide variety of disciplines.  With experts teaching their disciplines on SkillShare, Karanjanaprakorn looks to build a more skilled global workforce.  This cool person’s website has video classes that can help people land new jobs or do better in their current roles, regardless of whether those people are laptop repair professionals, marketers, or even entrepreneurs themselves. Skillshare’s main goal is to spread knowledge by allowing experts to share what they know online easily.

Informal video classes have been a staple of the Internet for some time.  People have made and posted amateur how-to videos on YouTube for years.  However, what Karnjanaprakorn offers with Skillshare is different for one major reason.  Skillshare teachers must apply and prove their expertise in order to earn a spot on the site.  Karnjanaprakorn’s company carefully reviews each application they receive and only chooses teachers that they believe truly have real-world skills and expertise worth sharing.  This process guarantees the users of Karnjanaprakorn’s site that they are always getting information from a qualified source.

Skillshare classes are also brief and work to provide help in a specific skill.  They are not university-style courses designed to provide an overview of an entire field.  Each class comes in a group of videos that clock in at under ten minutes each.  This format forces Skillshare teachers to engage their viewers quickly and prevents users from becoming overwhelmed.  Any users who have trouble streaming these short videos should contact a computer support service.

Karnjanaprakorn has worked in important positions at two technology startups before creating Skillshare.  He was a developer at Behance, an online creative portfolio site, which Adobe eventually acquired.  He also led the product team for startup Hot Potato, which was a service based around social activities and virtual check-ins.  Karnjanaprakorn’s experience with the startup world means he knows what he has gotten into as founder and CEO of SkillShare.  Hopefully, this cool person can use his experience in the startup scene to avoid mistakes and help his company thrive in the future.
