Snoball CEO John Ludlow Has Created a Unique Way to Give Money to Good Causes

Even when someone is generally a charitable person, life can be chaotic and prevent that person from donating to charitable causes very often.  Some charities offer donation plans where people pay on a monthly basis in the style of something like a computer tech support subscription.  However, these subscription plans are hard to market without a product and can flounder when trying to gain traction.  Cool person in technology John Ludlow presents a unique solution to this problem with his startup Snoball.  Snoball allows people to donate automatically on a regular basis, but uses a unique hook to draw more people to its program.  With Ludlow’s company, donations to charitable organizations trigger when a particular event that a donor chooses happens.  For example, a nonprofit could use Snoball to create a system where every a certain basketball team wins a game, people donate ten dollars to a special cause or foundation.

Nonprofits and charities who struggle to get regular donors can create special promotions and long-term programs using Ludlow’s system  It’s easier to market to a donor-base when a nonprofit can leverage people’s interests.  If a company mentions a major sports team or athlete, more people are likely to look into a program than if they flatly asked for a recurring donation.

Snoball is not limited to sports-based triggers. Ludlow’s company also promotes programs where people can donate based on their own actions as well.  For example, a charity could do an ongoing program where someone donates a dollar to cell phone recycling programs every time they purchase an app on their iPhone or Android device.

Ludlow’s system isn’t only potentially beneficial for nonprofits either.  Snoball can help businesses as well.  Many companies partner with charities to hold promotions for public relations purposes.  The Snoball method of getting donations gives these companies an automatic marketing hook for their entire program.  Ludlow’s system seems perfect for many companies who want to up their profile through charitable work.  Businesses can always get office tech support to help them if they have trouble integrating Snoball’s systems with their own during a promotion.

Ludlow has a strong background in enterprise software, having worked as operations manager for SAP for over three years.  He also has experience in building companies from nothing since he co-founded a mobile software company called Phodder before shifting his efforts to charitable donations with Snoball.  Assuming Ludlow uses his leadership experience well in his current role, we may be seeing many more charitable programs use Snoball’s triggered donations solution in the future.
