RESCUECOM’s 2015 Q1 Computer Reliability Report is in, and the scores this quarter show that the gaps between rankings are getting steadily smaller.

To determine reliability scores, RESCUECOM compares a manufacturer’s market share of PC’s, Macs, and tablets to the number of tech support calls RESCUECOM receives regarding that manufacturer.

RESCUECOM provides computer repair and support services, including tech support for all hardware and software, business technology services, data recovery and virus removal.

While Samsung and Apple still lead the pack, as is often the case, other manufacturers have slowly been closing the distance to the top ranks. While most of the positions in the list have remained mostly unchanged, lower-ranking manufacturers besides HP and Dell have been increasing in reliability by varying degrees since the first quarter of last year. In contrast, the top ranks have been slowly decreasing.

The full 2015 Q1 Computer Reliability Report rankings are as follows:

Manufacturer Reliability Grade Samsung A+ Apple A Lenovo B Asus B- Acer C Toshiba C Dell D HP F

Lenovo rounds out the top three this quarter. Lenovo has often held its place just beneath Apple and Samsung in recent reports, but has gotten even closer to taking second this quarter. The manufacturer has been steadily gaining ground and has a chance at surpassing some of the top competition if the pattern continues.

Asus and Acer claim the middle of the rankings, which is a surprise in regards to Acer. Acer has often been at the bottom of the rankings in previous reports, leaping ahead of several competitors this quarter with an impressive improvement in reliability.

HP brings up the tail end of the rankings. While HP has often been a close competitor with Dell and Toshiba, the manufacturer has fallen behind this quarter with the only failing grade.

With a couple of exceptions, the rankings have been getting progressively closer over the past year. If this trend continues, it should bring interesting competition for the top spots in the coming months. High-ranking manufacturers like Lenovo, Apple, and Samsung will have a tough battle to hold onto their lead.
