Macs are at Risk for Password Theft

photo Mac Security macs-are-at-risk-for-password-theft.jpegAlmost everyone stores passwords for everything from their email, business and personal banking, social media, and other extremely sensitive information on their computers.  Unfortunately, not even Mac users are as safe from attacks from malicious programs online as they once thought they were.  A new report released by a team of researchers from Indiana University has found that Apple, one of the most reliable computer manufacturers in the world, has developed a flaw in its software that could allow hackers to steal user passwords from Macs.

Apple uses an exclusive software called “Keychain” specifically designed to allow users to securely store passwords on their Mac computers.  Researchers have recently discovered, however, that it is possible for hackers to infect the files of those relying on this software for Internet security.  It seems that designers unintentionally built Macs with a flaw in their design that makes it possible for a malicious program to infect these computers in order to steal the passwords users have stored via the Keychain technology.

This flaw affects the vast majority of Macs, and it works by allowing malware to sneak into the Keychain software undetected.  Once there, it simply deletes the passwords you have stored previously and steals them the next time you retype them.  By doing this, a hacker then has access to anything for which you are storing those passwords, and there is no program or account for which you have stored a password that it cannot then enter.  When this happens, you have no choice but to call a reliable company such as RESCUECOM to perform the virus removal services you need to rid yourself of the problem for good.

As customers of RESCUECOM’s computer support know, open communication is key in most effectively benefitting any company and its customers, and Apple has recently begun to openly discuss issues that it once resolved only in private.  Another recently discovered issue with Mac programs is one that could allow a hacker to attach malware to a computer file in a group of programs.  Despite several reports detailing security flaws in the past, Apple does remain one of the most reliable computer brands in the business according to the most recent RESCUECOM Computer Reliability Report.  The company is now in talks with researchers and developers, and we can only hope this means that the problems will soon be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction.
