Asus, Apple, Most Reliable Computers
A recent report found Asus computers are least
likely among major PC makers to have repair issues, followed by the Apple (NSDQ:AAPL)
and IBM (NYSE:IBM)/Lenovo brands.
For the second consecutive quarter, the Rescuecom Computer Reliability Report
has found Asus computers to be most reliable, and, therefore, likely to need the
least computer repair. Rounding out the top five manufacturers are Toshiba and
HP (NYSE:HPQ)/Compaq.
"When it comes to buying a computer, quality of components and service by the
manufacturer after the purchase play a big role in consumers' purchasing
decisions," said David A. Milman, Rescuecom founder and CEO. "Our reports
deliver the most up-to-date information, based on our ability to define and
predict the anticipated reliability of today's most popular PCs."
The report calculates the scores by taking the number of computers shipped from
a vendor and comparing that against the number of computer repair and service
calls Rescuecom received involving those vendors' computers. Rescuecom is a
solution provider offering round-the-clock computer repair and support.
For the second quarter of 2009, IDC research reported a total of more than 16
million shipped PCs among eight major brands. During that time, Rescuecom
received 11,560 calls for computer repair and support regarding those brands.
Rescuecom defines "Computer Reliability" based on two key measures, including
the quality of the components and software used in manufacturing the computer,
and the postsales support that's provided by the vendor to its customers.
